Chapter 21: The typological Method.
Actually, this has been one of the most difficult chapter for me in this course. But let me make a summary of what I’ve understood.
A type is a person or thing in the bible which God used to represent some other person, thing, or event that will appear in future. So a type was a shadow of a figure, or a pattern of what was to come for example the study of Joseph in Gen 37-50 reveals a fire Jesus Christ in his life style, experiences, actions, attributes and relationship with God.
The study of types is called a Typological study and it’s so much like prophecy because they give an advanced view of what is to come in God’s future plan. Like prophecies some types have been fulfilled and others are still awaited. Types are physical pictures of spiritual realities.
I must say that this study is like meat of the word, it demands intense searching out of the truths to understand the word of God.
Types fall in four groups:
– persons
-places
-Events ( historical , ceremonial, etc)
– Material things
Bi le study methods like, the political method,the psychological method, the scientific method, the scientific method, the sociological method, Nd the anthropological method are not applicable to Christian living even though they are very interesting
